Maria Luisa Rodriguez, a participant in the Miss Mini Modelo Venezuela pageant, waits backstage before the start of the pageant. The pageant is for girls aged 6-10. Beauty pageants for little girls are fairly common and very accepted in Venezuela. Girls aged 6-10 often spend months or years taking all sorts of beauty school classes, ranging from runway walking to makeup to etiquette. The families spend thousands of dollars on preparing their girls for the pageants ; they have to pay for beauty school classes, a competition entrance fee, dresses and many other expenses. The world of beauty pageants is said to be very corrupt, where the highest bidder is the surest winner.
