Maria Teresa Torres teaches teenage girls how to pose for a photographer as part of a 6 month course at Giselles, one of Caracas' most famous modeling academies. Modeling academies and beauty schools are essentially used as finishing schools in Venezuela. Girls take classes in runway walking, photo shoots, oratory, makeup and hair. The same qualities that are associated with beauty queens and models are thought to define a proper woman in much of Venezuela.
