A miner with TB takes his daily medication at an Anglo Gold health facility. Anglo Gold has one of the hope health systems in the industry for treating TB but it's TB rates remain constant with the industry average. South African Gold miners are particularly vulnerable to contracting TB because of the small, poorly ventilated work and living conditions, high rates of HIV and high rates of silicosis, a lung disease often found in miners that increases the chance of having active TB.
